This poetry collection book, WINTER POEMS consists of some really “Well-Versed Poems” by the Poet. These poems are simply incredible and soulful enough to fill the readers heart with joy!

Reviewing this Poetry-Collection book, “Winter Poems” has been a special experience to me since I started my writing journey as a poet at a young age and that made poetry very close to my heart. Reading these colourful poems by the Author, Sabarna Roy made me go through each and every lines of this book very much in a single sitting and filled me with a sense of optimism.

About the Author: Sabarna Roy is a qualified Civil Engineer from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He works in a senior management position in a manufacturing and engineering construction company. He is widely travelled in India and lives in Kolkata with his family. He is an avid reader and a movie buff.

He started writing during his university days, mostly English and Bengali poems. He stopped writing after he left university and took up employment. After a gap of 19 years, he started writing once again mostly to reconnect with himself. In the period of 19 years when he did not write, he spent his nonworking hours reading, listening to music and watching world cinema. He loves reading Tolstoy, Chekhov, Rabindranath, Eliot, Manik Bandopadhyay, Satyajit Ray, Kundera and Pamuk the most. He is hooked onto Mozart, Turkish and Egyptian music and M S Subbalaxmi. 

In cinema his favourites are Aparajita, Pratidwandi, Rashomon, Eight and a Half, Breathless, Head-on, The Birds, The Godfather series, Vertigo, Sunset Boulevard, Sacrifice, Garam Hawa and Taare Zameen Par. The author can be contacted at storyteller10097@gmail.com.

Title: The title of this book, “Winter Poems” is certainly a catchy one as well as an extremely appealing one, specially to the poetry lovers and this is something which makes the book even more interesting, as the title itself compels you as poetry lovers to pick up this book for a read. You would feel the urge to go inside the chapters and try to understand the Author’s expression of the words and the deep meanings hidden between those words!

Theme/Concept: Poetry – There are a total of “26 Poems” in this book and most of these poems are composed in a very modern poetry writing style, which involves few lines and less stanzas. Well, as poetry lovers, you are undoubtedly going to enjoy these Micro-Poetry since even in less words the Poet had succeeded in impressing the readers in a great way! Readers can witness the cleverly used wordplays in the poems, which shows the craftsmanship of the poet and highlights the potential of these well-versed poems. 

Moreover, Winter Poems is a book which is highlighting the idea of loss and coming to terms with gradual wasting of life. The Poet is deeply inspired by the relatively mid-season that prevails in Kolkata, following the seasons of festivities, the Durga and the Kali Puja, celebrated in a grand way in the beautiful state of West Bengal, which can felt in his writings as well. The poet had portrayed countless shades of the human life in his poems.

One of my Favourite Poem from Author Sabarna Roy’s collection is the very last poem of the book, I really liked that micro poetry, it’s short and simple and still very deep and meaningful, something that you will question to yourself and something that you will want for yourself.

Readers Connect: The best thing about Sabarna’s poetry is that these poems are indeed thought provoking and there is a story attached as well to most poem of these poems. The emotions are very well expressed by the poet and if you have visited the beautiful city of Kolkata or have been familiar with the rich culture of Bengal even in the slightest of the manner, then this book has very much to offer you! 

The poems are composed in a Narrative Style and are likely to arouse deep feelings regarding the life, which we have been gifted.

Verdict: A Book like “Winter Poems” is undoubtedly a Must-Read one and deserves a chance. The way author had penned down his deep emotions and true feelings through his writings, it will certainly make you go deep into the poems and find out the hidden meanings which are rooted between the lines of these poems. The book focuses on some basic realities of the life and also advocates for the power of letting go. Letting go is an emotional control that stands powerful and true in my case too.

Sabarna Roy is a promising Poet-Author, who is very honest with his writings and knows the art of touching the readers heart with his words!
